A San Francisco radio station has been playing Nelly's 2002 hit "Hot in Herre" for more than 18 straight hours. No, there aren't technical difficulties, and no, the St. Lunatic hasn't taken over the station.
According to Slate, there is a long tradition of radio stations "stunting" to prank audiences and stir up publicity to see whether or not the station is doomed. Usually, the stunt signals a format change, for example, smooth jazz to hip-hop. It's a way to let people know that the old format is gone and that a new one is soon emerging.
Rumors that Latin 105.7 would be changing to an English-language pop station have been circulating for at least two years, and now the station is reportedly being rebranded as Hot 105.7.
