Kid Cudi speaks on the status on rap on the Arsenio Hall Show, believes certain rap music is "holding us back as a culture"

Fans of Kid Cudi have definitely noticed a change in the former G.O.O.D. Music rapper. Cudi is now sober and has a different outlook on things, the rap game in particular.

Cudi recently stopped by the Arsenio Hall Show and expressed his feelings for the current state of rap music. Cudi also noted that there are a few things he would like to see change.

"I think the braggadocio, money, cash, hoes, thing needs to be deaded," Cudi said. "I feel like that's holding us back as a culture, as black people. It doesn't advance us in any way, shape or form. We been doing that same theme, it's been like what, four decades of the same old bulls**t. I feel like, if you are going to be an artist there comes a time when you have to embrace the responsibility and realize that the power of music is something so special and to be able to do it on this magnitude where you reach millions of people, it's like, why not use that for good?"

A bold statement for Cudi to make.

During his interview, Cudi also spoke about his mission to reach the youth while opening up about his own suicidal thoughts.

"Really my mission statement since day one [...] all I wanted to do was help kids not feel alone, and stop committing suicide," he told Hall. "I dealt with suicide for the past five years. There wasn't a week or a day that didn't go by where I was like 'You know, I wanna check out.' I know what that feels like. I know it comes from loneliness. I know it come from not having self-worth, not loving yourself. [...] Kids don't have music that can coach them and give them that guidance."
