This past August marked the 14th anniversary of Aaliyah's death and now her family is preparing to release a tribute fragrance with Xyrena in honor of the "One In A Million" singer.
According to Vibe, the fragrance, appropriately named Aaliyah by Xyrena, is inspired by the fragrances she wore regularly. The unisex fragrance combines scents like vanilla, sandalwood, amber, jasmine, black pepper, violet, leather, mint, lavender and mandarin. The scent embodies masculinity, paying homage to the singer's trademark tomboy look and affinity towards men's fragrances. Developed with help from her mother and brother, the formula is also a hue of black, which was Aaliyah’s favorite color.
Five percent of all sales will reportedly go to The Aaliyah Memorial Fund, which contributes to and supports various organizations such as Agape Christian Center, Alzheimer's Association of Los Angeles and the American Cancer Society.
Aaliyah by Xyrena, which retails for $64, is currently available for pre-order and will ship in mid-October.
Aaliyah died in a plane crash in the Bahamas after the filming of her video for "Rock The Boat" in 2001. According to MTV, the singer died instantly when the plane, a Cessna 402B, exploded on impact just 200 feet beyond the end of a runway at Marsh Harbour International Airport on Abaco Island. She was 22 years old.
Just a month before the crash, Aaliyah released her self-titled third album, which featured the Timbaland-produced "We Need A Resolution," "More Than A Woman," and "I Care 4 U." She released her first album, Age Ain't Nothing but a Number, in 1994 and captivated many with her sultry vocals and boyish sex appeal.
Aside from making quite an impact on the music world, the "Try Again" singer became a breakout star in Hollywood landing roles in films like Queen of the Damned and Romeo Must Die, alongside Jet Li.
