Lady Gaga is in a lane of her own and is incomparable, so she believes, and she made that perfectly clear during her recent stint at SXSW.
Gaga was this year's keynote speaker and during her speech on Friday (March 14), she took the opportunity to express her true feelings about the comparisons between her and Katy Perry.
Here's what she had to say onstage at the Austin Convention Center:
"I don't know what the f--k-all I have to do with Katy Perry. Our music is so completely different. I couldn't be more different, really. I really don't fit in pop music in a way, but I came through it, and I'd like to think I changed it in some way, so you can feel like you don't have to fit into a mold."
The two have long been compared to one another, but they deny there is any beef. Back in August, Gaga brushed off those rumors and gave some kudos to Perry.
"I really like Katy Perry, and I like her fans," Gaga told Ryan Seacrest. Gaga's single "Applause" was released on the same day as Perry's "Roar."
As if any of Gaga's past antics haven't been proof enough that she is different from Perry, the pop singer gave quite a bizarre performance that this year's SXSW festival.
Music Times reported that Gaga called on her friend Millie Brown to assist on the performance of her ARTPOP single "Swine."
Brown, who is known for "vomit painting," drank a bottle of neon green liquid and forced herself to vomit all over Gaga as she played the drums.
