T.I.: Pretty Girls
After first acknowledging that he's happy that she's happy and in love and engaged with her fiancé Nick Young, he said that her disrespect of a hip-hop legend and her missteps in taking all of her backlash made him have to step away.
"In her defense, she had a lot thrown at her at one time," T.I. said at the start of the conversation. He also noted that she was the source of a lot of pent-up aggression from the African-American community when it came to cultural appropriation.
"It's very difficult to be the new kid, the butt of the jokes and the direction of all the negativity," T.I. said. "It came at a time where culturally in this nation - she's not from here - where we were looking for a source for somewhere to place some pent up aggression. They just got it for no reason. It was the easiest place to place aggression."
However, after a while, T.I. stopped wanted to clean up after Azalea's messes, and it took her conversation with hip-hop legend Q-Tip to make him realize that.
"After I kind of had smoothed it over, like OK, 'What is really meant to be said here is...' After it was cool, everything was cool, and then they kind of came back and undid what I had just [accomplished]. I'm going to be all the way real; I'm a loyal partner. If I rock with you I'm gon' rock with you," he said. "I really do feel that they just needed a little more time to adjust, which I feel they can do. They have the talent, they have the charisma."
