Kayne West sentenced to two years probation in paparazzo battery case

Following a fight between him and paparazzo Daniel Ramos in 2013, Kanye West has been sentenced to two years of probation, TMZ reports.West was not prosecuted, having struck a deal with the plaintiff and pleading no contest to misdemeanor battery charge. His additional attempted grand theft charge has been dismissed.

In exchange for the plea, West must complete 250 hours of community service and 30 days of anger management. As Rolling Stone notes, if West stays out of legal trouble for the next two years, this conviction will be expunged from his record.

The case began in July 2013 when was being photographed by paparazzi at LAX. He addressed Ramos, who had been bothering him, and said, "What you're trying to do is get me in trouble, so I step out and have to pay you like $250,000." He then ran toward Ramos and attempted to grab his camera.

The L.A. district attorney's office opted not to file felony charges against the rapper but rather referred him to the city attorney, who subsequently filed misdemeanor charges against West. As RS notes, West would have spent up to six months in prison had he been convicted.
