Big Boi and Phantogram's new partnership Big Grams are gearing up for the release of their debut album on Friday featuring the likes of Skrillex and Run The Jewels and the pairing have unveiling a brand new track "Goldmine Junkie."
The new single is track that blends and mashes genre boundaries, which has been a calling card of this collaboration thus far. It is slower and more hip-hop leaning, like the lead single "Fell In The Sun," as Big Boi handles the primary verses, rhyming about someone who is greedy for things involving flesh and monetary value. Phantogram singer Sarah Barthels backs him up with some rapping before her airy voice takes over the chorus. Josh Carter's expert beat-making ability brings the track together.
"Goldmine Junkie" follows up previously released singles "Fell In The Sun and "Lights On."
Each track is paired with one of the seven deadly sins, lust, gluttony, greed, sloth, wrath, envy and pride. "Goldmine Junkie," as one might expect, takes on greed.
Big Grams have not announced much in the way beyond their current album, but they have been booked for one festival gig this fall. Azealia Banks dropped out of her Treasure Island slot in the Bay Area next month and Big Grams was tabbed to take her place. The group have more shows planned including some surprise pop-up events and interactive media that they will release around this new music.
The Big Grams album will be released this Friday on Sept. 25. It will have two features from Skrillex and Run The Jewels. Pre-order the LP on iTunes or Amazon.
