Susan Boyle: Her Secret Struggle
In 2009, an undiscovered talent, Scottish singer Susan Boyle, astonished the judges and the audience when she sang "I Dreamed a Dream" from Les Misérables on the TV show Britain's Got Talent. Soon after finishing in second place on the talent competition show, she released an album that debuted at #1 and became a bestseller around the world. With the voice of an angel, she won the hearts of audiences everywhere, but despite her newfound fame, she didn't have many live concert appearances and many wondered why. What the world didn't know is that for years, Boyle suffered from anxiety and battled emotional outbursts. Her doctors originally thought that she suffered from brain damage caused by being oxygen-starved at birth so there was little, if anything, they could do. Later in life, she was diagnosed with Asperger’s Syndrome and that diagnosis has helped her to better understand her emotional and psychological behavior.

On Wednesday, April 9, 2014, Susan Boyle: Her Secret Struggle will premiere on Ovation, America’s only arts network. Fans will travel with Boyle on her first tour and see her battles with Asperger’s. Exclusive behind-the-scenes and backstage access will give viewers an intimate, first-hand look at how Susan deals with the stress of living with Asperger’s. The film, which features interviews with her manager, creative director, psychiatrist, assistant and Boyle herself, follows Susan at home, in rehearsal and, finally, in front of a crowd of 20,000 fans in Texas.

In a press release, Scott Woodward, SVP, Programming and Production, Ovation, talked about the project, saying, WWe are pleased to give our audience such a deep, personal glimpse into the private life of Susan Boyle. Her struggles and triumphs are an inspiration to all. For anyone who's ever been afraid to follow their dreams, this is a must-see special about battling through the obstacles to artistic success."
