Janet Jackson, Missy Elliott Drop New Song 'BurnItUp!' Ahead of 'Unbreakable' Release

Janet Jackson and Missy Elliott have been frequent collaborators, and now they're bringing new music into the new decade. Ahead of the release of her new album Unbreakable, Miss Jackson released a new song on Friday morning (Sept. 25), the fiery "BURNITUP!"

"BURNITUP!," which is the very first song on Jackson's new album, kicks off with a ravenous round of raps by Elliott, who spits in her signature sassy style that she's "Imma shut that down / Like a kitty cat, meow meow meow" and calls "BURNITUP!" a banger. Her vocals are mildly raspier than they have been in recent years, showing a wear of age.

The song itself carries the high energy from Elliott's rhymes and brings it throughout the rest of the song, namely through the rushing and intense of percussion. Jackson's vocal feels especially light when compared to the massive amount of instrumentation around her. Though she sings about partying all night while listening to the latest club hit, she doesn't wholly sell this message in her execution.

"BURNITUP!" is familiar fare to dedicated fans of Jackson's, or those who have been able to see the R&B star on her new The Unbreakable Tour. "BURNITUP!" is the first song in Jackson's 2015 setlist, and videos of live performances have made their way around the Internet. This, however, marks the official release of the song.

"BURNITUP!" is the first song on Jackson's new album Unbreakable, which is due for release on Oct. 2. It's the third song released from the album, following "No Sleeep" and the title track.
