Another music festival has opted to pull the plug on its 2014 events. RockNess, an annual music festival that takes place near Loch Ness in Scotland. The event typically takes place during early June, but organizers fear that another event might steal the attention of the Scottish nation during that timeframe this year.
"We'd like to thank you for your support over the last eight years," read a statement from promoters. "Due to the addition of a number of events alongside the World Cup and the Commonwealth Games we've decided to take a year off. We're using this break to make the event bigger and better than ever in 2015 so have an amazing summer and see you back at the Loch next year!"
The American audience has started to get hipper to the world's most popular sport, but the idea that the World Cup could disrupt something such as Governor's Ball or Bonnaroo is laughable. The argument for closure in Europe however makes sense. Still, the event managed to go forward during 2011 despite coinciding with the Cup. Another sporting event-to which us Americans have absolutely no connection to-the Commonwealth Games, will also be going down in Glasgow this year. Of course, those games aren't actually scheduled to begin until July 23.
It probably could've been predicted in advance that something was amiss, as the organizers hadn't posted a lineup yet. It will be the first time since the event's founding in 2006 that the event won't happen.
