Lady Gaga has announced the opening act for the midway portion of her "artRave: The ARTPOP Ball" tour: K-pop crew Crayon Pop. The group will open the tour with the pop star at her June 26 show in Milwaukee and continue for Gaga's two shows at the Staples Center in Los Angeles.
"I'm excited to announce June 26 through July 22 of Lady Gaga's artRAVE: The ARTPOP Ball will be opened by CRAYON POP!" Gaga tweeted.
Crayon Pop hasn't found the same audience in the United States as fellow Korean pop star Psy, but they quintet made its own viral impact in its homeland. The music video for "Bar Bar Bar," much like many other K-pop clips, features curious fashion, choreography, and total confusion on the part of your English-speaking correspondent. Also, much like other K-pop numbers, the track is unbelievably catchy.
The group wears different colored sweatshirts (correlating to the crayon theme) and scooter helmets. The most popular element of the choreography is the moment when the five members alternate bending their knees and standing straight up, replicating pistons. The track would jump to no. 1 on the Korean Billboard charts.
Trekking with Gaga will be the group's first tour foray into the United States. Those familiar with the video for "Bar Bar Bar" can call us out on this, but there's an interesting scene where the group dances in front of a theme park wall depicting American music stars. Bruce Springsteen and Michael Jackson are recognizable, but the blonde female stars are less obvious. Could the woman with long, straight hair on the far right be Gaga? Just a conspiracy theory.
