Kurt Cobain's 'Montage Of Heck: The Home Recordings' Release Date Set

Trailing the wide success of the Brett Morgen directed, Kurt Cobain documentary Montage of Heck, the impending documentary soundtrack will boast dozens of home recordings from the late Nirvana front man. The album, Kurt Cobain - Montage of Heck: The Home Recordings, has finally gotten a release date and is set to drop on November 13.

The soundtrack will drop just ahead of a unique November 20 release of a seven-inch release featuring his haunting version of the Beatles classic "And I Love Her" as well as "Sappy (Early Demo)." The Home Recordings will include premature and raw tape recordings that Cobain made alone, along with clips of short demos, early songs, experiments and bits of lyrics and tunes that would later be recognized on Nirvana records. Fans can grab the full-length album as a 13-track CD or a 31-track deluxe, double LP vinyl. Both will be available digitally.

The record accompanies the DVD and Blu-Ray versions of Montage of Heck, which will also see release on November 13. Supplementary to the original edition of the documentary, it will also be available as a beefed up, super deluxe edition with 48 minutes of bonus interviews, a 160-page hardbound book complete with interviews, a movie poster, puzzle, the 31-song soundtrack on CD and cassette, a bookmark and postcards, Rolling Stone notes. For those attempting to collect the 31-track version of the soundtrack on CD, ordering this jam-packed edition is the only way to do so.

During the film's theatrical re-release over the summer, one of the many rare recordings was added into the film's credits. It's likely that Cobain recorded the previously unreleased and untitled track somewhere around 1991 during the Nevermind sessions. The cassette also featured a rough take of "Old Age," another track written around the same time period.

"You really get a sense of how happy he was simply by creating himself. His lyrics are really playful, and, at times, you can feel his smile and warmth coming through," Morgen said of the soundtrack, NME notes.

The film saw heavy contribution and cooperation from his daughter Frances Bean Cobain and his widow, Courtney Love. Frances Bean Cobain recently married longtime boyfriend Isaiah Silva and although her relationship with Love has grown to be healthier than it has in the past, she refrained from inviting her mother to her small wedding.
