"The Devil Is A Lie," and so is the idea of a fully formed, full-length music video. Today (March 21), Maybach Music boss Rick Ross dropped the official music video for his second Mastermind single, and while the clip includes all the things one would expect in a rap video (cars, fire, close ups of an angry rapper), it is missing two things: Jay Z and half the song.
"The Devil Is A Lie" opens up simply enough, with Ross mean mugging at the camera, flames in the background and shots of big ol' SUVs driving in the background. Nothing spectacular, considering the fact that his last official clip for "War Ready" featured many of the same visuals.
But, like, halfway through the 2:17 video, things start to get a little weird. Namely, like he's in an ARC Music Factory video and not a Maybach Music one, multi-lingual subtitles kick in with English, Chinese, Italian and more. Not sure why... maybe it shows how international Ross' musical empire is? Regardless, it was an odd artistic choice.
The weirdest thing is, far and away, the length. The single version of "The Devil Is A Lie" clocks in at 5:12... the music video is a solid three minutes shorter than that. So, after the first chorus is done, so is the music video.
Maybe Jay Z was unavailable for filming, so instead of skirting around the issue, Ross just snipped the official music video. Maybe this is really just a teaser for a longer form clip that will drop later. Or, most likely, Ross already arrived at No. 1 with Mastermind, so music video views aren't that important to him.
