Scooter Braun and Jon M. Chu bringing Jem and The Holograms to big screen

Do you ever wish that David Bowie's Ziggy Stardust album/character was converted into an animated TV show? If you do, then you obviously weren't alive during the '80s, because it kind of happened already. Jem wasn't about alien rock stars or anything like that, but the show followed the adventures of a studio owner and her secret identity as Jem, leader of the hit band Jem and The Holograms (they looked like the could be Ziggy and the Spiders from Mars). Word has gotten out that Hollywood is looking to make a live action adaptation of the series.

The trio of individuals behind the project is a curious one. First of all, there's Scooter Braun, best known as manager for Justin Bieber, G.I. Joe: Retaliation director Jon. M. Chu, and Jason Blum, the producer for Paranormal Activity. We don't know how Blum works into the picture, but Chu also directed movies for Bieber. Plus, he's got the Hasbro connection from G.I. Joe.

It gets cool with how the team is gathering talent, via crowdsourcing. Children with singing and dancing talent can upload two-minute videos onto the project's website, and they'll possibly earn a spot in the film. Granted, Jem herself won't be crowdsourced, alas (we'll take this moment to throw out Kristen Bell as an option).

Older fans can get in on the action too, by sending videos to discuss what they enjoyed about the original series. Got fashion advice? Favorite side characters? Let the producers know if you want to see it in the film.

We realize we've already thrown one suggestion, but we've got another. The Holograms are always clashing with rival band The Misfits. The villainous Misfits are totally unrelated to the horror punk icons of the same name, but why not sneak in a Danzig appearance?
