Baltimore shoegaze band Wildhoney seriously scored on a pressing mistake made at a plant and Lana Del Rey fans were accidentally given a copy of the bands 2015 debut album, Sleep Through It, as opposed to 2012's Born To Die. It's a pretty big win for an up and coming and very niche genre band who may be able to garner a good number of fans from the mistake.
Billboard reported that a Youtube user named johny herrera jr was one of the Del Rey fans who accidentally received the wrong copy and was pleasantly surprised. In a video posted to Youtube he wrote, "I really enjoyed what I was hearing," and showed the mishap on screen, although some fans are sure not to be pleased by the pressing plants mistake.
"All copies of this particular pressing of the LDR record were pressed this way," Deranged Records founder Gordon Deufresne wrote to the Philadelphia City Paper via email, "A good portion will be recalled and likely recycled but lots of copies are now circulating. This happened due to a mix-up with the stampers at the plant - small mistake with huge implications. To be fair to the plant in question, this sort of mistake has occurred with other projects at other plants but it's typically caught before it has a chance to get into the hands of customers and fans."
Deufresne didn't name names but said, "They have been doing everything in their power to address and fix the issue."
Not that Wildhoney has been doing particularly badly for themselves as of late, as their new single "Think Air" from their upcoming EP, Your Face Sideways, premiered on SPIN and are playing a release show at local venue Ottobar mid this month (Oct. 18). Hopefully, the vinyl copies of their EP will be the right ones.
