Adding to her MTV Video Music Awards hosting experience, Miley Cyrus took on the comical duty of performing and hosting the 41st season premiere of Saturday Night Live this week. The singer used her time in the spotlight to announce a tour with her companions, the Flaming Lips, and debut two songs from her latest free album, Miley Cyrus & Her Dead Petz.
After being introduced to the audience by surprise guest Hilary Clinton, Cyrus had her own surprises in store with the Flaming Lips ready to join her, dressed in animal costumes for a rendition of "Karen Don't Be Sad." The Bangerz singer's second performance of the night brought about pictures of her recently deceased pets, her husky Floyd and Pablow the blowfish which rested atop a piano, Rolling Stone reports. Cyrus then executed an emotional version of "The Twinkle Song," the ending ballad on Miley Cyrus & Her Dead Petz. As losing a pet does, the 22-year-old was hit with grief as she delivered the final lyrics while tears streamed from her eyes.
Aside from the Dead Petz performances, the "Wrecking Ball" singer found a way to sneak more musical moments into her Saturday Night Live hosting segments. She delivered a monologue, which promised leeway for censoring due to her seven second delay. "When you smoke as much as I do, you're always on a seven-second delay," she joked, Billboard notes. She then broke into a 2015 themed Frank Sinatra "My Way" cover which jeered at the Meek Mill and Drake feud, Rachel Dolezal and Kim Davis meeting Pope Francis.
Trailing her third SNL stint, Cyrus announced that she would be teaming up with her pal Wayne Coyne and the Flaming Lips once more-this time for a limited, six date tour where they'll perform Dead Petz tracks. The short tour leg is set to kick off at Chicago's Riviera Theatre on November 19, passing through Detroit, Washington D.C., New York City, Philadelphia and Boston with tickets for the six club dates going on sale on October 7 at 4 p.m.
