Despite releasing one of the most highly touted albums of the year, Kendrick Lamar has not gone on an extensive world tour. He has done a fair amount of festival gigs in the United States and some shows in and around the Los Angeles area, but the major world arena or stadium tour one might expect from someone his status hasn't happened yet. Today, he announced a new tour, "Kunta's Groove Sessions" that will take the To Pimp A Butterfly rapper to eight different cities for eight shows.
Though there aren't many more details about the potential locations, venues and support acts, but according to an Instagram post, the shows will be "intimate." The shows will apparently feature music, dance, performances and more. Another important note is that this is the 1st annual one of this string of shows, which would mean Kendrick is getting ready to do this each year.
It appears as though K.Dot is trying to take an innovative approach to his live shows. Instead of the big production of a massive live arena show that most other artists do, he is looking to strip back and do different types of performances.
Lamar is performing with the National Symphony Orchestra in two weeks on Oct. 20, which is a first for him with a symphony. The NSO performed with Nas for the 20th anniversary of Illmatic last year.
Check out the tour flyer below and stay tuned for more details about the tour. If the venues are small, this will sell out almost immediately.
