Lady Gaga has reinvented herself once again for her turn in television series American Horror Story: Hotel. It is also her acting debut in the fifth chapter of the compilation, directed by Ryan Murphy. Now she is giving some details on how her debut appearance on the show is all about addiction.
"There is a journey for my character in particular through hemophilia and her need to drink blood to survive and stay young, and that's entwined with other stories about a need for sex, a need for freedom, a need for drugs, a need for attention, a need to survive," She said on her character, the Countess, who owns the hotel upon which the season is based, according to the Hollywood Reporter. Based on photos, it seems that Lady Gaga is taking a little inspiration fashion wise from her character in terms of classic, clean lines and glamour.
While the Countess is portrayed as more of a controlled user, they are several junkies roaming the halls of the Hotel Cortez. Max Greenfield portrays a serious heroin user who notably runs into The Addiction Demon, who is represented as a man sheathed in wax.
Veteran cast member Sarah Paulson plays an addict named Hypodermic Sally and said to the Hollywood Reporter that "The way that we can all be addicts in different ways that are detrimental to our health is a big part of this season, whether it be love addictions, sex addictions, drug addictions, alcohol addictions."
Lastly, Matt Bomer plays Donovan, who loves the Countess but ultimately loves his drugs more, and is constantly in competition with a rising model played by Finn Wittrock, who is completely obsessed with The Countess as well. Also, in real life Lady Gaga is his muse.
Billboard reported that the co-founder of the show, Brad Falchuk agrees with Gaga and said that, "Addiction has certainly become the central theme," although he would not elaborate further on plans for the sixth season.
