Carrie Underwood may be a proud mother to her newborn son, Isiaah Michael Fisher, but don't expect her new album Storyteller to be filled with songs inspired by her child. Despite being a happily married mother, the American Idol alumna insists that she's not going to make "mommy music."
Underwood spoke to CMT ahead of Storyteller's Oct. 23 release date and she revealed that she didn't take much inspiration from her son Isaiah on the follow-up to her 2012 LP Blown Away.
"I kinda think people in some ways expected me to write a whole album of mommy music, and I hope they're not disappointed that that didn't happen," Underwood said.
But, just because she didn't release a full album of music inspired by and for her son, that doesn't mean that the little tot doesn't get his moment in the spotlight. The 32-year-old mama did admit that Isaiah inspired one song on the album, because of course she has to draw from what's happening in her life for her music.
"I mean he gets his moment, and if that's kind of where we're headed -- obviously you use your own personal experiences to insert into your writing," she said. "He gets his moment on the album, and that's kind of it, you know what I mean? I didn't write 13 tracks of mom songs."
Storyteller is expected to hit stores on Friday, Oct. 23 and it will be Underwood's first new album in three years. The record is currently being led by the single "Smoke Break."
