Raven Symone has become known for her outspoken views on ABC's The View. Recently her comments on refusing to hire someone with an "ethnic name" has offended many in the Twitter world and prompted several to request that she be fired.
Despite Symone's many charitable organizations, people are having a difficult time adjusting to her outspoken personality, and the many offensive comments she has made during her stint on The View. Recently, the former Cosby Show child star commented on how she finds people with "ethnic names" to be unemployable.
According to US Magazine, the actress stated during a segment of the daytime talk show, which addressed the issue of discrimination against someone because of their name, how she herself is very discriminatory in that manner.
"I'm not about to hire you if your name is Watermelondrea," the 29-year-old stated. "It's just not going to happen. I'm not going to hire you."
Even though the actress has avoided responding to the situation, as reported by IBT, that hasn't stopped others from responding and addressing the show and the network, gunning to get her fired.
The strong responses from viewers and Twitter followers has since developed the hashtag #FireRavenSymone and prompted an online petition attempting to gain 50 signatures to have Symone terminated from the show. The petition's description cites that "No one should have to change their name in order to have a fair shot at finding a job or a home! " The site identifies William Winters as the petition creator who appears to be adamant that "ABC must fire Raven Symone today."
This is not the first incident where Symone has been labeled racist. During a past interview on Oprah's WInfrey's Where Are They Now, Symone explained how she doesn't like to be labeled as African-American and she's tired of labels, as reported by IBT in an October 2014 article.
Even then, she was cautioned by Winfrey to not "set Twitter on fire" with her comments. Yet, the 29-year-old continues to speak freely yet, offensively to many.
