Dave Grohl apparently has a hard time letting a high school rivalry go. At a recent Foo Fighters concert in Memphis the rocker brought an old high school foe who bested him in a 9th Grade "Battle of the Bands" competition and showed him what he's made of now, 32 years later.
His nemesis? Chet Lott, the spawn of former Senate Majority Leader Trent Lott, according to SPIN. It seems that Grohl has been waiting for a rematch since their time together at Thomas Jefferson High School as reported by Action 5 News.
"Ladies and Gentleman, Chet Lott!" Grohl says in the above video, welcoming Lott to the stage while perched on a throne. A hug indicates that the played-up beef is amicable.
"Long time, no see," the Foo Fighters frontman said. "When was the last time I saw you?"
"9th grade," Lott replied.
"Do you know I opened for the Chili Peppers?" Dave Grohl said back, clearly still trying to best his opponent.
Lott handled the whole thing well and shrugged it off saying, "I may have won the battle, but you won the war." The two then did a rendition of Queen and David Bowie's "Under Pressure," and Grohl even allowed Lott to take the lead vocals. Reportedly, Lott is a professional musician, but obviously Grohl's career far surpasses his in terms of exposure.
Billboard reported that the Foo Fighters have brought a lot of guests out on the stage as of late. Atypical girl group Haim made an appearance, as has Grohl's orthopedic surgeon. The frontman broke his foot on the Swedish leg of the tour and continued the North American portion from a chair.
Of his foot issues, he told the Associated Press, "When the audience sees me in that chair, they realize we're all in this together. I'm just a dude with a broken leg and I'm going to give you three hours of everything I got."
For the Memphis show, Grohl upgraded from his chair to a throne.
