Emotions ran significantly high during Brand New's final show of 2015 at Nashville's The Ryman on Sunday night when frontman, Jesse Lacey, gave a teary-eyed speech on becoming a father once more as well as the Long Island band's uncertain future and imminent termination.
During the group's well-known feud with fellow Long Island band, Taking Back Sunday, Lacey made it known "mics are for singing, not for swinging" but they're not for crying either -- unless you're Jesse Lacey that is. In April, the band unveiled their first pair of tracks in six years with "Mene" and "Sealed to Me," while further discussing their hopes of releasing their fifth studio album, a follow-up to 2009's Daisy.
During the Nashville gig, Lacey described the show as their last "for a while," Fuse reports. As tears welled up in the frontman's eyes, he addressed the crowd, starting with upbeat emotion: "It's hard to be unhappy about anything," Lacey began. "Because being in this band has been such a unique experience. It's just this room, and playing every night in front of an audience that loves us from the front to the back."
The singer then launched a not-so-hopeful, yet candid speech: "I'm gonna have a new daughter. We'll hopefully have a record for you. I wanna tell you right here and now, this isn't gonna last much longer, but it's been so special for so long. For as long as it does last, we're so grateful to you all for being here," he said after thanking his bandmates Vinny Accardi, Brian Lane and Garrett Tierney, telling them they're all worthy of their success although he may not feel the same way about himself.
Earlier this year, Lacey detailed the band's upcoming LP with Spanish magazine RockZone, stating "hopefully it will come out this year," NME notes. The singer continued, "We don't know whether it will be an EP of seven songs or so, or the traditional LP of 14 songs. We have many songs that we've been working".
Brand New has seen wild success over their 15 year run as a group, gaining most of their faithful fans with the release of their 2001 debut album, Your Favorite Weapon, followed by 2003's Deja Entendu and 2006's The Devil and God Are Raging Inside Me.
