The female orgasm, for some reason, is a hot topic of debate in the world of sex, but a recently unearthed study from around 14 years ago is showing evidence that it could be easier than we thought to achieve! According to a 2001 study, sniffing a dictyophora mushroom grown on Hawaiian lava flows can give a woman a spontaneous orgasm! Check out more on this very scientifically important research that has become viral this week. UPDATE: This study has been confirmed as unproven. Our previous coverage follows.

Again, this isn't exactly breaking news, but it has popped up once again this month, so we definitely want to share this with you!
This information popped back up all thanks to Boing Boing, which sites a Wikipedia page dedicated to this sexual mushroom. The study conducted by the International Journal of Medicinal Mushrooms found that "the smell of the fresh fungus can trigger spontaneous orgasms in human females. In the trial involving 16 women, 6 had orgasms while smelling the fruit body, and the other ten, who received smaller doses, experienced physiological changes such as increased heart rate. All of the 20 men tested considered the smell disgusting."
Our main photo is clearly not of a real mushroom, but we think that it embodies the appropriate reaction to this news, don't you?
According to Gamma Squad, this is a specific strain of the phallus indusiatus mushroom, which is also found in many Asian delicacies. Of course, this Hawaiian version is the one that we can't ingest without experiencing the symptoms above.
UPDATE: Apparently sniffing this mushroom wouldn't guarantee an orgasm, ladies. Sorry:
