Previous reports and comments from Radiohead have suggested we might hear an album by the end of the year. This week, in a new interview with Jonny Greenwood on a Russian radio station, the composer confirmed the band is done recording the album and are planning a tour.
"We have finished recording the new album, but we keep listening to it and change the views on the recorded material," Greenwood said in an interview with Russian Radio Silver Rain according to a Reddit post. "We hope that soon we will have exactly finish it and start building plans for a next year tour."
The band still has some strides to make before we see this album on store shelves, or more likely on a surprise release date as a free download given the band's history with odd album releases.
Radiohead drummer Philip Sellway previously said the band would be going into the studio full-time to crank out the album this fall. That was at the beginning of September, so the band has had over a month, and they've stayed true to their word.
Greenwood recently released an album of his own along with a documentary about its recording titled Junun. The album mixes Western electronic music with Eastern rhythms supported by a group of Indian musicians known as the Rajasthan Express. You can watch the documentary now over at the global video service MUBI.
Beyond a few sparse details we know very little about Radiohead's upcoming album. Composer Robert Ziegler is working with the band following his assistance with Radiohead's The King of Limbs. Ziegler posted photos to Twitter which were compiled by Consequence of Sound, which show Thom Yorke, Greenwood, Ed O'Brian and Nigel Godrich recording in the studio and working with a full orchestra.
It seems fans will just have to wait until one day that fateful surprise tweet scrolls across their screens announcing the album. Until then, listen to a classic below.
