In a recent interview, British rockers Foals talked about the time they had dinner with Lana Del Rey in France and the band's frontman Yannis Philippakis elaborated on how he felt like he had turned into a "sweaty teenager" when they met the US pop icon face-to-face for the first time.
According to NME, Philippakis stated "She [Del Rey] was in Paris, just being Lana Del Rey and ended up coming to dinner via a mutual friend. I got really excited. I'm in awe of her. It's funny to see someone like that. She's really nice. I didn't say anything. I was like a sweaty teenager, wanting to hide under the table."
During the dinner, Del Rey did indeed offer her opinion on the band's music, at least according to Philippakis who claimed "She said some nice things. She said she liked 'Give It All', and was just generally a sweetheart. The world is better for Lana Del Rey being here."
The band was also asked if they would ever consider collaborating with Del Rey. Synth player Edwin Congreave seemed a bit unhopeful, stating that "A collaboration would be great. But to be honest, if the choice was between hanging out on my yacht being Lana and working with some tense guys from Oxford, I'd probably stay on my yacht."
Watch Foals' brand new official music video directed by Nabil Elderkin for their track "Give It All" below. The track appears on the band's new record What Went Down, which is out now on Warner Music UK. You can head over to iTunes, as well as most other digital outlets to pick yourself up a copy today.
In spite of Congreave thinking of himself and his bandmates as "tense guys from Oxford," Foals are potential contenders for this year's Mercury Prize, the winner of which will be announced at the ceremony, which will take place at London's Radio Theatre at Broadcasting House on November 20. This year's festivities will be hosted by Lauren Laverne. The band feels that Everything Everything's Get To Heaven has a better chance of winning the prize than their own record, but they're perfectly fine with that.
