Recently child star Raven Symone ruffled quite a few feathers with her views on names. In addition to receiving tons of backlash and criticism, Symone got shaded by Ann Coulter when she visited The View for her comments on those with "ghetto sounding names". A typically opinionated and boisterous Symone was left speechless on last Friday (Oct. 16) when the conservative commentator and author stopped by the show.
Symone elicited the ire from many viewers after her and co-host reviewed a video referencing people with ethnic sounding names, where she openly expressed her disdain. The co-host started a firestorm after she expressed, "Just to bring it back, can we take back 'racist' and say 'discriminatory' because I think that's a better word. And I am very discriminatory against words like the ones they were saying in the video. I'm not about to hire you if your name is Watermelondrea. It's just not going to happen. I'm not going to hire you."
After the video went viral of Symone sharing her views, her father even chimed in obviously embarrassed by the statement saying "my daughter says some dumb sh*t". Unfortunately for her, Symone's views came up again her when guest Coulter visited the show.
Washington Times reports that during the segment Symone asked, "Why do you think that its important to mud-sling and have these words that obviously touch the hearts and souls of so many people in America being said when we're taught something different as a child? Could you explain that to me, and why do you think your success is based off of that?"
Coulter had a loaded retort in response to Symone's question saying, "I'm at least talking about policy, you have a position on what people's names should be. Watermelondrea. I mean, you'll insult people for their names. I'm talking about a government policy that affects all Americans and immigrants and the people living here, and is harming our country. So you don't follow it."
