Soyou and Junggigo tie record for longest K-Pop Hot 100 streak with 'Some'

Minor history was made on the Korean Hot 100 this week as the hit single "Some," by Soyou and Junggigo, kept its spot and remained the top song on the chart for its sixth week, tying the record set by Lee Seung Gi early during 2013.

"Some" takes a different route to stardom than what we've come to expect from K-Pop acts. American audiences are most familiar with Psy's 2012 hit "Gangnam Style," which set the bar for catchy hooks, choreography, and relatively highfalutin music videos. Soyou and Junggigo take a vastly different approach. The pair-Soyou is regularly a member of girl group Sistar and Junggigo normally performs solo-opt for R&B-style crooning instead, resulting in a smooth jam that would make strides on the American Hot 100 if it weren't sung in Korean. Lil Boi, a member of K-Pop group Geeks adds a rapped verse.

The music video hasn't gotten enough attention from American media in terms of its promotion of the track. The performers appear in a first-date-puppy-love situation, with Junggigo struggling to work up the nerves to ask Soyou out on a date. Further drama ensues when the former falls asleep on a bus. Oh, and there's also a series of Teddy Bears that seems bent on either bringing the couple together or keeping them apart. We don't speak Korean, so we missed the storyline there, but it still provides for adorable entertainment. Consider our approval rendered.

Seung Gi beat out Psy with his track "Return."
