Chris Rock's Lamar Odom Meme: Funny, Disrespectful, or Both?

Chris Rock is best known for his vile and sometimes inappropriate sense of humor that provokes gut-busting laughter from some, while others are simply left in shock. This is the case with one of Rock's recent meme tweets directed toward Lamar Odom that has left his followers with mixed feelings and asking: is it funny or disrespectful or a little bit of both?

Rock's tweet is one of many to take shots at Odom following his recent brothel scandal.

According to Page Six, Rock released this tweet to his 3.5 million Twitter followers on Thursday Oct. 22.

The tweet was met with multiple views from followers who weren't sure how to take the intended humor. @Amazingjr87 tweeted this response: WARNING: Tweets Contains Explicit Language

While @iconicmoss did not find the humor and tweeted this:

Rock, who was just named host of the 2016 Academy Awards, according to Page Six, has hosted events in the past where his humor set the tone for the event. In 2014, the Top Five actor hosted the BET Awards where he all but insulted many entertainers in the audience that evening. The show aired June 28, 2014 where Rock opened the night by recapping many events that took place that year involving music artists. One incident that he spoke of during the show was the infamous recorded elevator fight between Solange Knowles, the younger sister of Beyonce, and Jay Z. "What happened in music this year," Rock stated during his opening monologue as shown in the BET video clip posted below. "Solange had a fight with Jay Z in the elevator. ...Everybody said I can't believe Jay didn't just smack her. Well Jay's a business man now, he can't just go punching girls in the face." He went on to speak about rapper/producer Dr. Dre and rapper Rick Ross by comparing the two. He jokingly stated how Dr. Dre received $3 million dollars from his deal with Apple and his headphones, which prompted Ross to develop his own brand of headphones. "Dre Dre's got Beats and Rick Ross has 'dia-beats'." Now the comedian will grace the stage for the 88th Academy Awards set to air on February 28 according to CNN, but will he bring continued jokes about Odom to his performance and how well will it be received if he does? He's already facing backlash from his most recent tweet regarding Odom's situation. Rock is not the only one using the former NBA player's current medical condition as the source for some pretty creative memes. Many Odom memes have been circulating the web since the 35-year-old was found unconscious at a Nevada brothel and was rushed to a hospital where his condition seemed hopeless -- to ultimately progressing and reconnecting with his estranged wife, Khloe Kardashian, who has decided to work out their differences in their marriage and stay together. No Way Girl shared ten of the "Pettiest Lamar Odom Memes" that depict Odom waking up in the hospital to many cameras in his face with a caption that read, "when Lamar woke and saw the Kardashians filming." Another brought attention to Odom waking up from his coma because Kardashian was making his medical decisions. Then there is this meme: @Iamciti on Twitter posted:

But ultimately, it all comes down to this post from @GaptoothDiva

Lamar Odom's condition continues to be critical as he is still struggling to walk and talk after experiencing multiple strokes early on in his medical condition.
