On the last night of the Nashville Songwriters Association International's 22nd Annual Tin Pan South Songwriters Festival last weekend, Joe Don Rooney, the guitar player from Rascal Flatts, made a big announcement. According to News Channel 5, Joe Don told the sold out audience, "My sweet wife is here tonight, Ms. Tiffany, and we don't get to see each other that much anymore, but we get to see each other tonight, we had a little dinner before we got here and somehow we're pregnant." No one seemed to know if it was appropriate to laugh at the joke or clap so the for a moment, it was quiet and then the applause broke out.
The laughter came next, when Rooney quipped, "It happens fast these days, I'm telling y'all!"
And the laughter kept coming as he shared, "It's funny, because people keep asking, 'Do you know what you're having?' and I go to the back in my mind to this time that I heard Dolly Parton say -- and it's the funniest thing ever -- somebody asked her what she was having and she said -- and I believe this -- she said 'I don't mind what the sex of the baby is, as long it stays the same sex its whole life.' Healthy and the same sex its whole life."
The sweetness came next as he got serious and addressed his wife out in the audience, saying, "But Tiff, thanks for being here. I know we have crazy schedules, but baby, just having you here with me just feels amazing. I got my soul mate, my partner, the momma of my babies and the angel to come."
