It was a close race to No. 1 on the Billboard 200 this week, but a cappella group Pentatonix edged out Demi Lovato's Confident for the top spot on the charts, in a race that came down to less than 1000 album equivalent units. And though the fight for the peak was a close one, other new releases from Machine Gun Kelly, The Game and Coheed and Cambria also fared well in the top 10.
When it came to rounding, Pentatonix's self-titled album barely bested Confident for the No. 1 slot, Billboard reports. Pentatonix, the YouTube sensation's first album filled with original material, led by single "Can't Sleep Love," sold slightly over 98,000 copies and gave the vocal five-piece its first chart-topping record. Of the 98,000 units tallied, over 88,000 of those records came from pure album sales.
In a bit of an upset, that Lovato's Confident landed at No. 2 on the Billboard 200, with 98,000 copies. Regardless of streaming numbers, Lovato was always going to land in second place with album sales; Confident sold 77,000 units. The other 21,000 units came from streams and single sales, thanks to Lovato's hits "Cool for the Summer" and "Confident."
The Weeknd's Beauty Behind the Madness kept cool at No. 3 for a second week.
Machine Gun Kelly's new LP General Admission started its chart run at No. 4 with 56,000 album equivalent units, with 49,000 copies coming from album sales. In general, rap did well on the charts this week. The Game's second album in two weeks, The Documentary 2.5 debuted at No. 6 with 48,000 units (The Documentary 2 debuted at No. 2 on Oct. 18). Other rap releases in the top 10 include Fetty Wap's self-titled album at No. 5 and Drake and Future's What a Time to Be Alive at No. 8.
Meanwhile, BFFs Selena Gomez and Taylor Swift also kept up their time in the top 10. Last week's No. 1, Revival slipped down six spots to No. 7 and Swift maintained her stronghold in the top 10 at No. 9, a three spot decline from last week.
The top 10 is rounded out with a little dose of rock, courtesy of Coheed and Cambria's Color Before the Sun. The new LP debuted with 32,000 units.
