On the heels of the release of her first single "Hello" from her impending album 25, slated for release late next month (Nov. 20) Adele gave an exclusive interview to i-D's "The Here and Now" issue where she discussed "toxic" fame and late siren Amy Winehouse. The interview with i-D also marks her first in three years. The singer recently teased her album in a long Twitter post where she also expressed to fans exactly how she felt.
Adele spoke extensively on fellow singer Amy Winehouse during the interview and claimed that, "If it wasn't for Amy and 'Frank' one hundred percent I wouldn't have picked up a guitar."
She also says that her songs "Daydreamer" and "Hometown" never would have been composed, as well as one of her most famous, "Someone Like You." The singer also revealed that the two went to the same Brit School together, but contrary to popular belief, were not friends and didn't know each other.
When asked about her relationship with fame Adele said, "I'm just frightened of it, you know? Frightened of it destroying me and it ruining me, and some of the people that I love with my whole musical heart. I get frightened. And I get frightened for the people that I love, feeling like they've lost me... It's a bit toxic, fame. I've got enough toxins in the body, I don't need any of that." She went on to express that she enjoys living a more low-key life for her fans.
Adele further elaborated on the idea of fame, using the British talent program Stars In Their Eyes as an example of disappearing into the smoke and returning as another person. She asserted that it was easy to lose yourself in the world of fame. In the down-to-earth fashion that the star is known for, she claimed that she is not trying to be "anti-famous" and merely said she didn't want to lose touch with reality.
