The world is about to be blessed with a massive load of new J Dilla instrumentals. The beatsmith behind seminal hip-hop group A Tribe Called Quest and one of the greatest samplers of all time, J Dilla died too soon in 2006, but left behind a treasure trove of unreleased beats he never got to pair up with a rapper or formally release to the public. Now 41 more electronic leaning productions are being shared in a special Dillatronic package this week and all of them are available to stream before the project drops on Friday, Oct. 30.
The 41-track release will focus on a lot of his more experimental, electronic tracks. Unlike a fair amount of his posthumous releases, this has been approved by his mother Ma Dukes, who handles Dilla's estate.
"I can smile in my heart, knowing my son's work is being shared with the people as we planned before he passed," she says. "I only share the best, and I only hope to continue introducing the world to the genius of J Dilla."
According to Young RJ, Dilla's protégé and member of Slum Village, the group Dilla once belonged to, the electronic feel to these instrumentals makes them feel very contemporary.
"These tracks are still ahead of their time sonically," explains RJ. "The things producers are doing now, Dilla did that 15 years ago."
The 41-tracks will be sold as part of special merchandise that includes limited edition CDs, 3xLP vinyls and various deluxe packages with clothing and bags with your vinyl and CDs.
