Phil Collins is Planning a Comeback, May Reunite Genesis with Peter Gabriel

Just five days after undergoing major back surgery, Phil Collins has revealed that he will soon be coming out of retirement and is planning an unexpected comeback, which may include reuniting the Peter Gabriel era of his band Genesis.

The singer/songwriter's last solo album was 2002's Testify. He has since released a Motown cover album titled Going Back in 2010, but soon announced his official retirement a year later, citing a desire to spent more time with his kids, as Consequence of Sound reports.

In the new interview with Rolling Stone, Collins proclaimed "I'm no longer officially retired ... The horse is out of the stable and I'm raring to go."

He also opened up about his recent surgery, the result of a 2007 injury where he dislocated a neck vertebra while performing on a Genesis reunion tour.

"I had an MRI and my back and hips were just shot," he told Rolling Stone. "The doctor had to go in there, work on the sciatic nerve and take my back apart and unscramble the mess... He said to me, 'If you want to play drums again, all you have to do is practice.'"

He explained that when he starts touring again, it would only be a short tour, but possibly as far-reaching as Australia or the Far East. He also mentions that he may want to do small theatres instead, but since the idea is preliminary, he hasn't quite decided yet.

"I love the guys," he told the magazine regarding a Genesis reunion. "I would just prefer to do this first. For now, let's just see how this goes... Pete won't sing 'Invisible Touch' or 'I Can't Dance.' We'd only do material like 'The Lamb Lies Down on Broadway.' Also, I can't play drums, so I can't do what I did. I just want to settle with the bits of me that I can possibly do."

Watch Phil Collins' official music video for his biggest hit "In the Air Tonight." Just in case it's not ringing a bell, it's the song that was playing while Mike Tyson punched Zach Galafianakis in The Hangover.
