Famed producer, Timbaland, has been eyeing the release of his own brand new record, Textbook Timbo, for awhile now, but new signs point to its imminent release. The rapper has just leaked a brand new track titled "Them Jeans" featuring Atlanta rap trio, Migos.
The new song isn't the first song Timbo's released from the upcoming album, dropping the more auto-tuned "UFO" last month. The song features his somewhat apprentice Tink, as well as Future. "Them Jeans" has some radio-single potential, hitting the beat hard and holding on to an upbeat tempo throughout. Migos provide some solid verses. As Consequence of Sound points out, the song also tributes Ginuwine's 2003 track "In Those Jeans" on multiple verses.
Timbaland, known on court documents by his given name, Timothy Mosley, recently took the stand alongside Jay Z to defend the pair's legal use of a sample in Jay Z's 2000 hit, "Big Pimpin." The courts ruled that Osama Fahmy, nephew of Egyptian composer Baligh Hamdi -- whose 1957 song "Khosara Khosara" is sampled in the track -- did not have legal standing to pursue the claim. This is the second suit involving this issue, the first of which was thrown out in 2007. Many are still expecting an appeal from Hamdi's nephew.
According to Rolling Stone, judge Christina Snyder was firm on her decision. "Fahmy lacked standing to pursue his claim," she stated. "In light of that decision, it will not be necessary to submit to the jury whether 'Big Pimpin'' infringed 'Khosara, Khosara.' I had to hear the testimony of Egyptian law experts in order to reach that decision."
Textbook Timbo, which will serve as the artist's fourth solo effort, has been expected to drop this year, and with two months left, that could be very soon. It reportedly features high-profile guests, as per usual, including Jay Z, Justin Timberlake, Drake and Lil Wayne.
