I predict a chart takeover. Thanks to his status as a coach on the U.K. version of The Voice, Ricky Wilson's band Kaiser Chiefs' new album Education, Education, Education & War starts at No. 1 on the British album charts, knocking out rival show The X Factor's Sam Bailey from the top.
According to Official Charts, the English rock band wear at one point neck-and-neck with Bailey's album sales, but managed to outsell her by 2,000 copies, and thus, landed the No. 1 spot.
This marks the second No. 1 album for Kaiser Chiefs in the U.K. Its second studio effort, 2007's Yours Truly, Angry Mob, peaked at the chart's apex as well. The top spot for Education also reigns in a new successful era for Kaiser Cheifs. It's last album The Future is Medieval (2011) only peaked at No. 10 in the band's home country.
As could be expected, last week's No. 1 singer, Sam Bailey (winner of The X Factor UK) landed at No. 2.
She was followed by yet another former chart-topper, with George Michael's latest album Symphonica. That album debuted at No. 1 three weeks ago and has held steady on the U.K. album charts; this week, it slips just one spot to No. 3.
The second-highest British album of the week goes to Johnny Cash's Out Among The Stars, which debuted at No. 4, a feat Cash's son John Carter Cash is "thrilled" with.
Other albums on the chart are largely familiar fare to British music fans. John Legend, Wilko Johnson and Roger Daltrey, Pharrell Williams, Elbow and Paloma Faith's albums all hit the top 10 this week.
Besides Kaiser Chiefs and Cash, the third debut album in the top 10 goes to Christina Perri's Head Or Heart, which hit No. 8 thanks to single "Human."
