Justin Bieber is continuing to blend together emotional lyrics and glitzy EDM production on his new album Purpose. Less than two weeks before his Believe follow-up is due to drop, Bieber released his latest Skrillex collaboration "I'll Show You," and this one gets personal.
"I'll Show You" is notably more down-tempo than his previously released Purpose cuts "What Do You Mean?" and "Sorry." Though the shininess of dance music is the first thing you notice, the track also features introspective lyrics about Bieber's last few years. Though this has been a common theme on his previously released singles, "I'll Show You" goes a little but deeper into his struggles with depression and his public image.
"My life is a movie and everyone's watching / So let's get to the good part and past all the nonsense / Sometimes it's hard to do the right thing / When the pressure's coming down like lightning / It's like they want me to be perfect / When they don't even know that I'm hurting," he sings in the opening verse and pre-chorus.
To mix with the song's intense lyrics, the tones around Bieber have a rich, deep tones and the song sounds a little dark and depressing. But, the lightness and vulnerability in Bieber's vocals help to balance that out and bring in a human element.
"I'll Show You" is the third song to be rolled out from Bieber's forthcoming album Purpose; the track follows the release of "What Do You Mean?" and "Sorry." Purpose will be released on Friday, Nov. 13.
