Martin Garrix: Dragon
"Poison" fits with the current, more melodic sound that Garrix has been putting out in 2015. He adds pitched up vocal chops throughout the main drop that are woven into the melody and become another tool in Garrix's playbook. The track slowly builds with soft keys and percussion that gradually crescendos into a tune built for the main stages he reigns over with a thudding kick drum and a soaring synth lead.
It doesn't sound as polished or creative as some of the recent tracks he has put out like "Break The Silence" or "Dragon," but for a free download, this is as good as it gets from somebody the caliber of Martin Garrix.
"Poison" comes at a time of flux for Martin Garrix. He recently split from his longtime label Spinnin' Records and management group attached to the label MusicAllstars Management to join Scooter Braun's SBE Projects full-time. He has not announced which label he will join or if he would start his own, a common trend in electronic music for DJs, but if the Usher track "Don't Look Down" was any indication a move towards a big label could be in the cards.
