With the Walkmen on an indefinite hiatus, multi-instrumentalist Walter Martin has launched a project geared toward children. Entitled We're All Young Together, the LP will hit stores on May 13 via Family Jukebox. Today, Martin released the album's second track, "We Like The Zoo ('Cause We're Animals Too)," which features The National's frontman Matt Berninger singing about a variety of animals.
The song is lighthearted and filled with an assortment of animal noises.
"'We Like the Zoo ('Cause We're Animals Too)' is my tribute to the lost art of the novelty song," Walter said in a press release. "Songs like 'Poison Ivy" and 'Yakety Yak'-all those Leiber and Stoller masterpieces-are a big part of my life. I didn't want to put my name on an album that didn't have room for that kind of song."
The album also features the Yeah Yeah Yeahs' Karen O and Nick Zinner, Clap Your Hands Say Yeah's Alec Ounsworth, and The Walkmen's Hamilton Leithuaser and Matt Barrick.
