The lead single, "The Love Within," from the Britt pop band Bloc Party's upcoming album Hymns, has a new danceable music video ahead of the album's January release.
Hymns is Bloc Party's fifth album and with a new lineup the band is taking the sound in a notably more dance-pop direction, quite literally.
"The Love Within" music video has the group dancing around an abandoned shopping center; beginning with a kid dressed in a bright yellow shirt shimmying towards the camera in the brightly lit, but eerily grey, mall. The band dances all around the abandoned building bringing some color and life to the desolate surrounding.
There's also a dog the makes a quick couple of cameos throughout the video. The shoot ends with the dancing kid who opened the video doing some flips down the hall, when he suddenly disappears leaving only his clothes and a tiny salamander that crawls out from the remains. The band released the single last month and instantly drew attention for it's starkly different sound from the more rock-centric style of hits like "Banquet," which gained the band some fame even outside the UK.
"So far there's nothing that I can compare it to really in terms of other musicians, whereas in the past I always could - we were always trying to reference something else," frontman Kele Okereke said in an interview with Australia radio station Triple J. "I feel that this is very much our own record. I'm very excited by it."
Hymns is available for preorder now and comes with an instant download of "The Love Within."
