Craig Morgan spent 10 years in the U.S. Army serving in the 101st and 82nd Airborne Divisions followed by nine years in the Reserves. The vet may be out of the service now, but those who serve are never far from his mind. So whenever he has an opportunity to perform for the troops overseas, his go bag is ready. This spring, he'll head to Southwest Asia to for his 11th overseas military appreciation tour.
He talked about the chance to go in a press release, saying, "As a former soldier myself, it is so important to me to have another opportunity to support our troops and do whatever I can to keep morale high. I always jump at the chance to get over there and do my part."
And jump at the chance he has. Craig was one of the first artists to go into Afghanistan to entertain our troops. He said, "Right after the invasion, they were still sweeping up glass in Kandahar in the airport. I get to give those men and women a little piece of home. It really does make a difference."
Morgan received the 2006 USO Merit Award for his tireless support of the U.S. military, an honor also awarded to Steven Spielberg, Elizabeth Taylor and Bob Hope.
For Craig, it's not just about singing for the troops when they're in far away lands. He remembers (and supports) the families back home through Folds of Honor and Jack Daniel’s Toast to the Troops.
