50 Cent's new series 'Power' gets official premiere date

The 50 Cent-produced Starz series Power has an official premiere date.

According to Complex, the show will air on Starz on Saturday, June 7th at 9PM ET/PT.

Back in November, MStars reported that the show had started production in New York City.

As previously reported, 50 will co-executive produce alongside Mark Canton (300) and Randall Emmett (End Of Watch).

Courtney Kemp (The Good Wife) wrote the show's script.

The rapper/hip-hop mogul will also co-star in the series with the recurring role of Kanan, an old friend of James "Ghost" St. Patrick's. Power will tell the story of Patrick, a wealthy club owner who is trying to escape his drug dealing past.

Patrick's role will be played by Omari Hardwick, best known for his role in the TV series Saved and Dark Blue.

Power will also feature 3LW member Naturi Naughton (Notorious), Lela Loren (Gang Related), Joseph Sikora (Boardwalk Empire), and La La Anthony.

Starz describes the show as "a visionary crime drama set in two different worlds, the glamorous New York club scene and the brutal drug trade."

50 seems excited about the show and having a hand in the music selections.

"For me the musical component of 'Power' is so important; I wanted to let the music speak to the viewers as they are watching the show and being able to create the theme song, 'Big Rich Town,' was crucial as it sets the tone of the show," 50 said in a press release. "The audience will also get the chance to hear additional music off my latest album, Animal Ambition, as the theme of the album translates into events portrayed in the show."
