Justin Bieber Has Moment of Silence Onstage at HALO Awards After Paris Terrorist Attacks

Justin Bieber had a moment of silence onstage for the attacks in Paris this past Saturday (November 14) at the Nickelodeon 2015 HALO Awards. The pop star was being honored there for his involvement with the Make-A-Wish foundation as well as Pencils for Promise, but surprisingly did not focus on himself when he took the stage at the event.

According to Billboard, Bieber requested that the audience engage in a moment of silence in order to recognize the other events happening around the world. It was assumed that he was paying respect to the victims of the terrorist attacks that occurred in Paris the night before at an Eagles of Death Metal concert (November 13) and other locations within the city.

Reportedly, the entirety of Pier 36 was then silent for a full minute. The HALO Awards largely honor community service work and Bieber was then subsequently presented with his first ever HALO Hall of Fame award for his work with various charities. Other artists present at the time included DNCE, Fifth Harmony, Flo Rida, Tori Kelly and Walk the Moon. There were also several young honorees there that night, ranging in age from 14 to 18. The ceremony is due to air late this month (November 29) on the popular children's television channel.

Although it was assumed that the young singer was referring to the terrorist attacks in Paris it would be the first time that he's mentioned it. On the day of the tragedy Bieber had been celebrating the release of his new album Purpose during "An Evening With Justin Bieber" event at the Staples Center in Los Angeles and made no mention of what was occurring overseas, although news was already trickling in.

This event was the kick-off to a series of promotional appearances that he is scheduled to appear at in support of Purpose and it was reported that extra security measures are being put in place in the wake of the terrorist attacks.
