Several members of the alternative metal band Deftones were in attendance at the Eagles of Death Metal concert Friday night in Paris, France to watch the band perform. Just by chance, they left the show early before the start of the terrorist attack, which left 118 dead at the venue.
Deftones was set to perform at the Le Bataclan theater Saturday night to kick off an international tour, and many of the band's members decided to catch some of Eagles of Death Metal concert Friday.
Lead singer Chino Moreno confirmed to his hometown CBS affiliate station in Sacramento that the band was safe. Moreno was not at the concert himself but much of the band it was a very close call, he said.
"Yeah, we're safe," Moreno said. "We weren't scheduled to play at the Bataclan until (Saturday). A couple of band members, they went to the concert, but they left early - after the first few songs they ended up leaving the venue. They got out of there and all of our band and crew are safe and accounted for at the hotel now. So, we are just here, we're pretty much on lockdown."
All the members of Eagles of Death Metal have also safely survived the attack, but have decided to cancel the remainder of their tour following this tragedy.
Deftones was set to head out on a string of European dates, but given the events that have transpired and the limited travel capabilities due to the French state of emergency, it's unclear if the band will continue with those plans.
Moreno told the station his first priority is to get him and his family out of Paris as soon as possible. The band's next scheduled performance is a sold out show in Germany on November 18.
