Many expected an Odd Future reunion at their festival Camp Flog Gnaw last weekend. Perhaps this was because the group had been broken up for almost half a year, or because Odd Future Wolf Gang Kill Them All (OFWGKTA) was advertised as the headline act, but it seemed many were disappointed when only Mike G, Domo Genesis, Left Brain and Hodgy Beats took the stage for a 70-minute set. The set was then pre-empted by a profanity-laced speech delivered by Tyler the Creator onstage. He claims, "n***as got me f***ed up, I put too many n***as on. I helped too many of my motherf***ing friends out, and then it's gon' come foul? You know who the f**k im talking about n***a, And yeah this is getting real, I love you though." This provoked the ire of Hodgy Beats on stage, and more clearly online.
He went on Instagram later on Sunday to post the following: "Call me jealous. Just don't call my phone. Tyler is a fraud. He turned his back on n***as that never crossed him and I'm not just speaking for myself only. So enjoy the emotion you feel towards Hodgy. He Gon keep pushing."
Many fans are lamenting the loss of friendship and artistic collaboration that this language suggests. While the breakup of Odd Future seemed like something only Tyler was aware of, it is now apparent that the group will not be reuniting any time soon. After their meteoric rise in 2010, Odd Future has gone on to star in their own television program, release hit albums, and catapult the career of members like Earl Sweatshirt and Frank Ocean. Although many members have illustrious careers of their own, fans were hoping they would come together and make music once again. Hopefully, this isn't the last we'll be hearing from OFWGKTA.
