EDC New York has announced the 2016 dates for fifth annual edition of Insomniac's Big Apple festival. Still taking place over two days, EDC New York 2016 will have two big changes from last year.
The festival will move locations from the Meadowlands, Metlife Stadium, where it has been for three out of the past four years and the past two back to Citi Field. The festival will also no longer be during Memorial Day weekend, a big shift from its previous four years where EDC New York was branded as a Memorial Day Weekend festival.
EDC New York will be held Saturday, May 14 and Sunday, May 15.
The move back to Citi Field will come as a surprise to many fans who were growing accustomed to the friendly confines of Metlife Field. However it isn't all that surprising given that Metlife Stadium had shuttered off access to the actual field last year after the disaster two years ago where attendees were evacuated during a dangerous lighting storm and fans relieved themselves in the halls of the stadium.
The entire 2015 festival was in the parking lot.
The initial festival at Citi Field was criticized because the stages were too close together and there was a remarkable amount of sound bleed between them, but hopefully organizers will have taken care of that next year.
It is interesting that they have moved the event from Memorial Day to two weekends before. We will see if that affects attendance at all going forward. Pasquale Rotella explained the decision in an Instagram post.
Tickets go on sale Cyber Monday, Nov. 30 at 12 p.m. EST. Head to the festival's website to get yours.
The 2015 edition featured acts like Martin Garrix, Knife Party, John Digweed, Eric Prydz, Dyro, The Magician, Jack Beats, Kaskade and many more.
