Lorde finally met the inspiration behind "Royals," the hit song that turned her into pop royalty. Last year, Lorde told VH1 that she saw a vintage 1976 photo in an issue of National Geographic of "this dude just signing baseballs. He was a baseball player and his shirt said, "Royals." It was just that word. It's really cool."
The "Royals" refers to the Kansas City Royals baseball team and the player was George Brett, Kansas City's Hall of Fame third baseman. The two finally met Tuesday night in Las Vegas.
According to TMZ, Brett has been invited to meet Lorde in the past, but scheduling conflicts go in the way until this week. When Brett couldn't attend her Kansas City concert, he sent her an autographed jersey with his signature and a message: "Lorde, you are Royal to me."
