Mo'Nique Says Open Marriage Was Her Decision, She Wanted Other Men Because She's Famous

Comedian Mo'Nique recently stated how she and her husband, Sidney Hicks, were in an open marriage but, she had to set the record straight for those who believed it was her husband who wanted other women. In fact, she says the open marriage was her decision because she wanted to be with who she wanted be with, because she's famous.

The Queens of Comedy star recently set the record straight on who in her marriage decided to keep it open and experience other partners. According to Rolling Out, the decision was all hers, despite the fact that many suspected it was her husband.

Mo'Nique recently did an interview with True Exclusive where she opened up about her marriage and gave advice to couples who want a successful marriage. According to The Parkers actress, when you marry your best friend as she did, you don't need a "free pass" to cheat and be with other women. In her marriage, they are very open and honest with each other and discuss everything. "...when you're with your best friend and you say to your best friend 'I'm having these feelings about this person, sexually and I wanna share it with you'.. when you're best friends, you can have those open and honest conversations," she stated in the interview.

She explained how often times people cheat because there is something that they need that they are not getting from their mate, so they have a conversation about it. Her candidness on her relationship led some people to believe she was speaking about her husband and he wanted certain things from other women that he was not getting from Mo'Nique.

In her video confession on Persiscope, she cleared up all speculations that it was she who wanted to be with whomever she wanted to be with because she was a new celebrity and wanted an open marriage.

"When I first said that I was in an open marriage...it was not my husband's idea," she explained. "Originally it was my idea cause at the time when Sid and I got together, ten years ago, and keep in mind this has been my best friend since we were 14,...I was still stuck in being famous, and a celebrity and being a star. And I felt like I could have whatever I want."

She explained how because she was in a marriage with her best friend, she was able to explain her feelings and desires to him, on the men that she wanted to be with, openly and without judgement. She says Hicks was completely supportive of her wanting to be with other men. "If that's what you think you need, as your best friend, I don't want to stand in your way of it."

She cleared that up, it was her decision and it's not about "cheating" because a cheater is someone who lies. She explained how she has always been honest in every way with her husband.
