In an interview with The Sun, Martin revealed the appearance by Obama, saying, "We have a tiny clip of the president singing 'Amazing Grace' at that church. Because of the historical significance of what he did and also the song being about, 'I'm lost but now I'm found'."
According to the publication a source said, "Barack Obama wouldn't let just anyone feature his vocals on the record, especially considering what a deeply emotional moment it was for him. But he clearly loves Coldplay and is happy to be a part of their music history. The band was obviously thrilled."
In order to use the clip, Coldplay had to obtain permission from both the White House and the Charleston African Methodist Episcopal church.
The band's seventh studio album is set to be an intimate affair, with another appearance from Martin's ex-wife Gwyneth Paltrow on "Everglow" and even a cameo by Beyoncé and her daughter Blue Ivy.
It has been reported that Martin Chose Beyoncé to sing on the track "Hymn on the Weekend" because of her angelic way she could perform the hook "drink from me." The new album is reportedly all about the idea of family and friends, which is why Martin additionally added Blue Ivy to the mix.
