Graduation season is approaching, and many institutions are announcing the commencement speakers for this momentous occasion. However, students at one particular school aren't very happy with their institution's choice.
XXL reports that Sean "Diddy/Puff Daddy" Combs is slated to deliver Howard University's commencement address.
Although Diddy did in fact attend the institution, he did not graduate. TMZ speculates that this is the reason students are unhappy with the university's decision.
And despite student opinion, HU is moving forward with its plans to have Diddy as their speaker.
In a press release sent out earlier this week, the University's interim President Wayne Frederick said, "In selecting the individuals who will be awarded honorary degrees, Howard University continues the tradition of identifying leaders whose work has clearly contributed to the advancement of their fields and the world. We are honored to have Mr. Combs serve as our speaker. He sat in classrooms where our students sit, walked 'The Yard,' and like many students, his entrepreneurial spirit was sparked at Howard. We know he will inspire our class to work hard and to always strive for excellence."
In addition to delivering the commencement speech, Diddy will also receive an honorary doctorate in humanities.
Past Howard University's commencement speakers include Maya Angelou, Oprah Winfrey, and former president Bill Clinton.
The ceremony is to be held on May 10.
Do you think the students should have a say in who their commencement speaker will be? Was Diddy a good choice? Sound off in the comment section.
