Live music may be the booming side of the music industry, but sometimes companies can fall on tough times. London-based DJ booking agency Elastic Artists is reportedly withholding payments from their clients after what it describes as "financial difficulties."
According to a letter sent out to its clients seen by Resident Advisor, the company states it "is currently experiencing financial difficulties which have meant we are unable to release monies to clients for shows that have already taken place." It adds: "We are exploring options to restore the company's liquidity and to transfer the ownership of the business to a new team."
The letter goes on to explain that none of Elastic Artists' "existing team of agents nor the company's management are in any way implicated in the current problems, and none were privy to the underlying options until the past few days."
Among the artists on Elastic Artists are Âme, Dixon, Obey City, Evian Christ, Horse Meat Disco, Bart B More, Canblaster, DJ Slink, Frankie Cosmos, Nadus, Nom de Strip and Of Montreal according to the agency's website.
Some of the acts and their respective teams have become vocal about the situation on social media, voicing their frustration at Elastic.
Excuse me @elasticartists can your accounts department please reply to my emails and pay me the money I am owed. Thank you.
